From Principal Randall,
Good afternoon, AFJROTC Student Cadets, and Caregivers,
This Friday, May 16th, we will be holding a special assembly for all students in our AFJROTC program during our Advisory, and period 3. The assembly will be 1 hour, running from 9:00 – 10:00 am.
We’ve invited our partners from Northeastern University’s Center for the Study of Sport in Society to come in to speak and work with our cadets during this time.
A couple of cadets recently raised concerns related to behaviors within the program, including harmful speech being used at times among fellow cadets. School administrators looked into the matter, and determined that while no major offenses had taken place, there were some substantiated actions that could best be addressed through continued discussion, reflection and education.
Our AFJROTC program is over 100 members strong, and while not all cadets may have been privy to the exact circumstances mentioned above, it will be important for all members of the program to come together on Friday.
On Friday, our Northeastern presenters will lead our cadets in discussion of positive leadership, the importance of being an upstander, and positive role model, in addition to providing education for students around the use of harmful speech and impacts of our behavior. These are values which Sgt. Lanning and Capt. Wolfrum prioritize daily with our cadets, and are reflected in the AFJROTC’s slogan of “Integrity First, Service Before Self, Excellence in All We Do.”
Our AFJROTC cadets are valued role models and leaders in our school community and among their peers. Friday’s assembly should be positively impactful for our student cadets.
Looking beyond this week’s assembly, we’re hoping to continue working with our Northeastern partners into next school year, and providing leadership workshops and/or assemblies for students and student leaders across our PVMHS school community.
Thank you for your support,
Principal Randall
